SpaceX launched the Dragon spacecraft into orbit from Florida’s Space Coast on Saturday morning, carrying a multinational crew from the United States, Denmark, Japan and Russia on a flight to the National Space Station economic.
The four crew members took their seats inside SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Endurance spacecraft overnight, then waited for the Falcon 9 rocket to lift them into orbit from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The rocket headed northeast from the Florida coast to cross the Atlantic Ocean and align with the International Space Station’s flight path. About two and a half minutes after launch, Falcon 9’s first thruster separated from the rocket’s upper stage to begin its return to Cape Canaveral. The return maneuver resulted in a vertical landing on the target a few miles south of the launch pad.
